Blue Monday

January can often feel quite bleak, even without a pandemic keeping us in lockdown.  Perhaps you set some resolutions that have already slipped or you are struggling with the darker days and colder weather.

There is even a date on the 18th January which has now become known as ‘Blue Monday’, because it is apparently the most depressing day of the year…..there is even an equation to calculate it (not something for here !)

It is more important than ever to find ways to destress right now.

So we thought we could share some ideas to help you unwind during this first month of the year, that hasn’t started how many of us hoped it would:

  • Grab a new craft project such as needlepoint (obviously), knitting or sewing

  • Go for a walk (ideally in a green space or by water)

  • Drawing, painting or colouring in

  • Read a book

  • Write down three things you are grateful for today

  • Meditation

  • Put on your favourite song and dance it out

  • Yoga or yoga nidra

  • Gardening

  • Call a friend

Do let us know if you followed any of the above as we would love to hear about what you did and how it helped.
